EMDR Therapy Indianapolis

Frequently Asked Questions

It’s good to have questions!

If you're like me, when searching for just the right therapist you have a lot of questions, and I have a lot of answers! I’m happy to continue the discussion during your 15 minute consultation, but hopefully this will save you some time and answer the bulk of what you need to know for now. See below for some frequently asked questions:

Who do you work with?

I work with individuals ages 17 and up. At this time I do not offer couples, family, or group counseling sessions.

I warmly welcome individuals of all races, ethnicities, cultures, religions and gender identities. I embrace, support, and advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, as I work to create a safe and inclusive environment for everyone.

What are your qualifications?

I graduated with my Masters of Social Work in 1998. Two years later, I fulfilled the requirements to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I’ve worked for more that 2 decades in the field of Behavioral Health. In 2018, I began my basic training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) in order to better help people recovering from trauma. Today I am a Certified EMDR Therapist, with a special interest in supporting individuals working through or recovering from medical and/or religious traumas.

If you have interest in looking up my credentials, you can access my license information via my full name: Mary Suzanne Janke, LCSW.

Where is your office?  Do you offer online / virtual therapy?

I offer both in-person and virtual psychotherapy sessions.

  • My in-person office is located at:

7962 Oaklandon Road, Ste 106E

Indianapolis, IN 46336

  • Virtual sessions take place on a secure HIPAA compliant platform, which affords me the opportunity to provide safe and consistent trauma-informed mental health care to people across the state of Indiana. I’ll send you a unique link before each visit.

What is your availability?

Office hours are currently on Mondays and Fridays from 8:30-4:30 pm.

Do you have evening and weekend appointments available?

At this time I do not have evening or weekend appointments available. However, this may change so check back if you have interest in alternative days/times.

How long is a therapy session?

A standard psychotherapy session with me lasts 60 minutes. Your first intake session will be between 60-90 minutes. I also offer 90 minute extended EMDR sessions for more intensive trauma work.

How often will we have sessions?

I’ve found that meeting on a weekly basis supports the best therapeutic outcomes, so I ask my clients to commit to regular weekly sessions. As you begin seeing progress, we can talk about tapering off to bi-weekly or even monthly as we begin to close out our time together.

What will happen during our time together in therapy?

During the first few sessions, I will listen and learn about your history, what brings you in for therapy, and we’ll establish some specific and measurable goals. We’ll also set up a system for ongoing check-ins so that as we progress, we can be assured we’re moving in the right direction. Throughout our time together, you’ll then be learning and practicing some specific stabilizing, coping, and calming tools that will be helpful to you both inside and outside of our sessions. Finally, we’ll delve into the heart of what brought you here.  Depending on your goals and what you would like to work on, I’ll be pulling from my evidence based toolkit to guide you as you toward healing and thriving.

Do you give “homework”?

It depends. When working with trauma, I am careful to only give homework that helps you to feel more grounded and calm between sessions.

However if we are working with other types of treatment outside of trauma work, there will likely be some “homework” that will be important to supplementing the work we do during therapy sessions.

How much do sessions cost?

Green Garnet Counseling’s fees for service are below:

  • $165 | standard full 60 minute session

  • $200 | initial intake session

  • $247.50 | 90 minute - more intensive trauma work

*You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services. You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit cms.gov/nosurprises.

Are your therapy sessions covered by my insurance?

I am an in-network provider with Anthem. Please call your insurance company for more details on your specific plan.

I am also an out of network provider for other PPO plans. In this case you will pay me directly, and I can provide you with a Superbill for submission to your insurance company. Prior to your intake appointment with me, it will be important for you to contact your insurance company to educate yourself on what they are able to reimburse you for an out of network provider.

Do you offer a sliding fee scale?

As a means of increasing affordability an accessibility to quality therapy, I am able to hold a limited number of slots for clients obtaining treatment via Open Path Collective. Open Path Collective can also provide you with a large network of other providers available at a reduced rate for those who qualify.

What’s your cancellation policy?

While sometimes there are just circumstances beyond our control (for example, inclement weather or illness), it’s also important to keep in mind that missed appointments are a loss to everyone and impact your clinical care. Therefore, I am happy to either reschedule a full 24 hours ahead of time or adjust our appointment to be virtual that day if needed. Likewise, if I determine that, for example, the weather is too dangerous for travel, I will offer a virtual session as well.

I do require the 24 hours notice for cancellation, and the full fee for a session is charged for a missed appointment without a full 24 hours notice.

What counseling services do you offer?

I offer individual therapy for treatment of trauma and PTSD symptoms. I specialize in working with individuals with medical trauma. I utilize a variety of evidence based therapeutic tools including:

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy(ACT)

  • Motivational Interviewing

  • and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

How long will I need to come to counseling?

I will provide you with a “Good Faith Estimate” after our first session, regarding my best estimate for what you can expect in terms of time and cost of services. We’ll also be engaging in ongoing assessment throughout treatment as well. Typically my clients commit to a minimum of 8-12 weekly sessions.

How do we know if therapy is working?

I will keep track of information specific to how you’re progressing on a regular basis. We’ll be talking in real time about what’s working and what isn’t, and we’ll adjust as needed as we move closer and closer to your goals.

What if therapy isn't working for me?

I will work to adjust as needed, and/or I will do my very best to connect you with someone that will be a better fit. You communication about your experience will always be encouraged and appreciated.
