Specialization: Compassion Fatigue and Secondary Trauma for Caregivers

You’re managing a tidal wave of need….

As caregiver for your loved one, you’re overwhelmed. While you do your best to lovingly provide care, you sometimes feel like you're in over your head. This experience has taken its toll on you too. You’re feeling frustrated, worried, scared, and torn in so many different directions. You feel isolated, and when you inevitably fall short of juggling all the varying demands in your life, the feelings of inadequacy, fatigue, and guilt make it difficult to find joy or satisfaction in life.

Perhaps you’ve been exposed to circumstances throughout this journey that have taken you off guard, evoking a troubling response within you. Painful memories, in the form of recurring images or nightmares, have begun to emerge. You’ve noticed changes within yourself, like avoiding certain appointments or even people. There is a sense that you can’t relax and are always waiting for the next shoe to drop. It's no wonder you've started to feel disconnected from those around you and even from yourself. At times, as you’ve sat holding your loved one’s hand, you’ve wished you could take the burden of pain on yourself in order to give both of you a certain kind of relief. While you would love to engage in some of the “self-care” you keep hearing about, it seems like a distant luxury.

There is help

My name is Suzanne, and I specialize in helping caregivers like you manage the challenges of supporting a loved one in pain, and nurture the secondary pain you’ve been experiencing too. As an EMDR Certified Therapist, I also help those struggling with trauma responses or PTSD related to extremely difficult caregiving experiences. With over twenty years of experience in behavioral health, I pull from a wide-ranging toolbox of evidence-based therapeutic techniques, and am well equipped to support you as you reclaim those parts of your life that feel lost right now.
