It’s been a long road so far.
Your journey to this point has been physically and emotionally taxing. So it’s particularly important to you that the therapist you choose can provide you with the time, the care, and the expertise to really help. With so many options out there for therapy, it’s surprising how difficult it can be to actually find the right therapist for you. And now that you’ve decided this is what you need, you’d love to find a therapist you can really connect with so you don’t find yourself searching all over again in a few weeks. Your mental health is a priority, and you're prepared to invest in it. So you need a therapist who respects both the time and resources you are dedicating to taking care of yourself. If you’re serious about making real change in your life, I encourage you to carefully consider what you need and want in a therapist.
A little about me…
My name is Suzanne Janke, and I’ve dedicated my career to supporting individuals working through a variety of traumatic or disruptive life experiences including PTSD (Posttraumatic Stress Disorder) and other challenges. I've been fortunate to partner with a broad spectrum of clients, each bringing their unique circumstances to our therapeutic “work bench”. Over time, I’ve developed particular interests in helping people who have encountered stress associated with their own personal medical trauma as well as compassion fatigue for caregivers and healthcare providers. I also work with individuals recovering from religious trauma.
I hold a Masters Degree in Social Work from Indiana University, and a License in Clinical Social Work in the state of Indiana. I am also an EMDRIA Certified EMDR Therapist and am currently a Consultant in Training (CiT) for other psychotherapists working toward their certification in EMDR. To provide insight into my approach, here are a few interests that shape my therapy practice:
I am committed to practicing with cultural humility and embracing the rich diversity of backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives that exist within our lovely state of Indiana. I’m always actively learning and growing (and occasionally stumbling…) as I continually adapt my services to meet the unique needs of each of my clients. Put simply, I aim to provide a genuinely supportive and respectful environment for each unique person who chooses to work with me.
I love hiking. I love the movement, the getting away, and of course the green space (more on this below). Spoiler alert: be prepared that if we work together, being outside and finding some way to safely move and connect with nature will most certainly be part of your “homework”.
I believe laughter is essential to healing and to living a full life. There are plenty of studies that support the therapeutic benefits of laughter for mental health. Also it’s fun, and we NEED some fun when working through difficult things.
I love traveling. Who doesn’t? Whether it’s a road trip somewhere in the state of Indiana, or a trek across the world, I love planning and then living out a new adventure. I’ve included a picture of me at the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland (continuing with my green theme from the Emerald Isle). And, this dovetails nicely into my next favorite…
I encourage you to take a look around, and learn more about my specialties. Or, if you’re ready now, the quickest way to get started is to schedule your free 15 minute phone consultation with me. I look forward to talking with you soon!
